Darla Bostick Photo

ABOUT DARLA BOSTICK:
Earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Texas Tech University in 1976, Darla has been involved in the arts since that time. As an art educator she taught grades 6-8 in Spring Branch ISD, Houston, TX for 5 years and operated a stained glass business.

As a public school volunteer she coordinated art programs in Seabrook, TX as well as "Talking Canvas" in Des Moines, IA and the Cultural Arts program in Denton, TX. Darla has taught classes using many media in Houston,
Des Moines & Denton from her home studio. In her personal work she finds the greatest challenge and satisfaction in watercolors and photography.
Love of travel is evidenced primarily in her photographic images which later inspire paintings in watercolor. At last count, her passion for travel has taken her to 33 countries throughout the world. Since painting plein air is not always convenient when traveling, Darla uses her camera as a sketchbook to capture the colors of a region, its architecture, unique landscapes and the people's daily lives. Her "First Impressions of China" photo exhibit has traveled throughout the North Texas area and won several awards. One photo from that collection was recently chosen to appear in "Life Images" (a new photography magazine premiering April 2008) and another appeared on the front page of the "Dallas Morning News" travel section.
Darla has had several solo exhibits for both watercolor and photographs throughout the North Texas area and her art work has appeared in several publications, web pages and on television. Her photographs as well as watercolors have received several awards in juried competitions.
She is featured in "Best of America Watercolor Artists & Artisans, Vol. I" by Kennedy Publishing and her watercolors and photography have graced the covers of "Denton Connection" as well as "Denton Scramble" magazines. She is also a "calendar girl" as one piece was chosen for the 2007 Visual Arts Society of Texas calendar. As a faux painter and muralist, Darla's work is displayed in many residential and business places in the Houston, Des Moines, Dallas and Denton areas.
Also a writer, Darla has been published in "Art Educator." She has written children's books as well as a gardener's book of prayer, a garden tour manual, and several family history books.
