This is Fall at Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu … Can you picture yourself here?

Darla’s next workshop begins in September on Labor Day Weekend.

WHO: Darla is an artist using primarily watercolors (with a bit of mixed media for interest), an art educator (for 35 years), a traveler at any opportunity, a photographer (catching images of life as a springboard for further exploration) and a writer (poetry, text journals and books). She has won awards in many juried venues, been published in newspapers, books, websites, television and more. Darla’s motto is “Art is Life!” Her hope is to touch the viewer through her images and show the world as she sees it.

WHAT: Different from most workshops, this one is a retreat. Your lodging and meals will be provided on the Ghost Ranch grounds.

WHERE: Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu is 65 miles northwest of Santa Fe. (Abiquiu is not the same as Albuquerque –although Albuquerque is the major airport). Shuttle service is available from the airport to Ghost Ranch.

WHEN: Labor Day Weekend and more…we will begin the workshop on Saturday, 5 Sept through Thursday, 10 Sept. Room check-in begins at 1 pm. Checkout is 10 am from the rooms, but we have use of the group activity room until 2 pm. See our schedule for details.

MEALS: It is remote…in fact, there is really nothing around Ghost Ranch but scenery, so they will feed us all our meals in the Ghost Ranch Dining Hall (and the vegetarian ones are fabulous!).

HOW MUCH: The workshop fee is $380. Room rates at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu vary as to what type of lodging you prefer. Considering the room rates include meals, the expense is very friendly to the pocketbook! Per day for all 3 meals & your lodging rates range from $55/day per person to $150/day per person.

Currently artists from NM, OK, TX and CA are registered to attend. Rooms are guaranteed for our use until 4 August (one month before the event). At that time, any rooms not claimed will be released from our workshop block of reservations. Since our workshop begins on a major holiday weekend, once the rooms are released it may be difficult to reclaim them for our use. Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to join us at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, NM. Please make your reservations before 4 August to avoid any difficulties. Also, as a side-note, American Airlines Eagle flights are now servicing Santa Fe (one hour from the workshop in Abiquiu). Other airlines serve Albuqueque, but it is two hours from our workshop in Abiquiu.

All room reservations and workshop fees go through Darla (she is not making profit from room charges and sends those directly to Ghost Ranch). This keeps your workshop costs down!

Payments in full are appreciated but can be done in installments. All are non-refundable however. A limited number of rooms have been reserved for workshop participants (and spouses). Because additional rooms may not be available, participants are encouraged to register early.

OUR FIELD TRIP:

Darla’s 2008 workshop/retreat in Santa Fe had a field trip to the Georgia O’Keeffe museum. This workshop will also have a very unique field trip. The Georgia O’Keeffe Landscape Tour is $25 each. We will be taken to view her artwork at the same time as seeing the views she saw! For more information: http://www.ghostranch.org/about-us/georgia-okeeffe--tours.html

WORKSHOP SPECIAL: Those who register and pay in full will have a chance to win a FREE Georgia O’Keeffe Landscape Tour!

Golf carts are available for rent for ease of navigation on the ranch.

Finally, if you fly into Albuquerque airport you can reserve a shuttle to Abiquiu (car rental is also an option). Please make a note on your registration form, & Darla will make every effort to facilitate your arrival & group carpools if desired.

WORKSHOP DETAILS:

Each day will be a new adventure, with a specific art technique in mind, but media of your choice. The goal is one finished piece each day (but at a pace you are comfortable working).

You will have the option of working outdoors, or the comfort of our indoor group activity room.

Many participants at the Santa Fe workshop requested more days on the next workshop. To that end, an additional day has been added this year. Also, there will be some free time slotted into the schedule for your leisure—whether it be for a bit of fun and recreation, time for a short nap, or extra time with your art work.

Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu has a ranch atmosphere very different from the dorm atmosphere of Ghost Ranch, Santa Fe. There are many wonderful things to experience at Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu (a meditation circle, hiking to the hogans or the vista mount).

For our schedule: DOWNLOAD SCHEDULE

We will have a secure group activity room for slide presentations, demos, etc. Hopefully there will be one table per artist as we did last workshop. The group room asked for is modern, well lit with gorgeous views, has sinks & bathrooms .
